Emergency/After Hours Coverage

At Tsolum Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to providing the best possible care for your pets. While we currently do not offer after-hours services due to ongoing staffing shortages—a challenge faced by many veterinary hospitals across Canada—we want to ensure our clients have support when emergencies arise outside our regular hours. We have partnered with trusted services to provide several options for urgent veterinary care.

 

Our SmartVet service offers a virtual triage service, where Registered Veterinary Technologists are available to answer calls, assess your pet’s situation, and either connect you with a B.C.-licensed veterinarian for a virtual consultation or guide you to the appropriate in-person emergency facility.  We always recommend SmartVet as the first call in an emergency after hours situation.

 

For in-person care, clients can contact Mahalo Veterinary Hospital in Nanaimo from Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to Friday 8:00 a.m., or the Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Nanaimo from Friday 8:00 a.m. to Tuesday 8:00 a.m.  Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital also offers after hours emergency care.  See below for more detailed information on each hospital.

 

For more extensive or specialized emergency needs, WAVES Emergency Hospital in Victoria is also available. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these options ahead of time, so you're prepared if your pet needs urgent care.
